Park City
Friday 25 February 2000

Weather

Pretty wild, the tail end of a 2 day winter storm. For most of the day, there was heavy snow and strong winds. There were brief periods when the snow stopped and the sun even tried (unsuccesully) to break through. The temperature at the start of the day at the Summit was about 8F and it never even threatened to get pass freezing point.

Conditions

Powder day, with 8" of fresh snow and heavy snow still falling.

Story of The Day

The end of the last day at Park City in 2001

For the sixth and last day of our 2000 trip to Utah, we went back to Park City. It was another powder day, with about 8" of fresh show in places and because it was still snowing, the camera had a rest day.

We started off with one run down Home Run with Sue down to the resort center and then headed up Payday and Bonanza to the summit area and a cruise down to the King Con area.

We then did three runs off King Consolidated lift, through cold driving snow, culminating in a run through the powder to the left of King Con before stopping to warm up.

After the break, we took Silverlode to the summit but decided to head back to King Con where visibility was a little better. At the beginning of the week, the areas between the runs from King Con ridge was not skiable. By the end of the week, conditions were much better and we ventured into the powder once before lunch.

After lunch we all did a couple of runs from First Time together. Chris stayed down at the base area, while John finally decided he wanted to do so challenging skiing, so we did Blueslip Bowl, the centre of McConkey's Bowl and then returned to the bottom the most difficult way, down the narrow Shaft run. A few more runs from Payday and it was time to say goodbye to Park City for 2001.

By the end of the week, our rental car was disgustingly dirty, covered in salt and sand.

Where there was grass at the beginning of the week around the Powderwood Condo, there was a respectable covering of snow. Our condo was the ground floor one on this picture.
Saturday morning, it was time to pack up and go home, but not before breakfast at the Mt. Air cafe.

Views from around the condo showed Park City in the distance, under heavy skies, lots of snow and impressive icicles where the overnight snow had melted and then frozen again.
The final pictures of Sue's teddy show the long icicles, one of which broke off and fell to ground pretty spectacularly, and the snow covering one of the small pine trees nearby.
